Twitter use can lead to divorce

A recent study from America has claimed to have found evidence of a link between Twitter use and relationship breakdown and divorce.

The study, by researchers at the University of Missouri, found that regular users of Twitter were more likely to experience “Twitter-related conflict” with their partners, which could then lead to problems such as infidelity, separation and divorce.

Researcher Russell Clayton had conducted previous research that found a link between Facebook use and divorce, and he wanted to find out whether the same link existed with Twitter.

“Although a number of variables can contribute to relationship infidelity and separation, social networking site usage, such as Twitter and Facebook use, can be damaging to relationships,” Clayton said. “Therefore, users should cut back to moderate, healthy levels of Twitter use if they are experiencing Twitter or Facebook – related conflict.”
