A Northumberland resident left just under £80,000 in her will to Craster Memorial Hall, reports the Northumberland Gazette this week. The money has been used to help refurbish the popular village venue.

Alison Newbigin, who died in 2011 aged 94, was a former resident of the village and a keen member of the Craster Memorial Hall committee.

“Alison put her heart and so much effort into the hall in her lifetime that perhaps for her it was natural to donate this money,” Michael Gibbs, secretary of the Craster Community Trust, told the Gazette. “But for the community it is wonderful and we very much appreciate what it has enabled us to do.”

A memorial plaque to Ms Newbigin will be unveiled soon.
