A leading UK watchdog has stated that the government does not care enough about the elderly and criticised services in the UK.

According to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) some pension firms are failing elderly clients with many missing out on better policies available. The result has led to the FCA encouraging clients to look around before deciding a pension provider.

The Scottish NHS has been given an £18 million cash boost following fears that it may be poorly equipped to deal with a potential surge in patients over the Christmas period with fears that care for the elderly will be the worst affected. 

The state backed pension scheme, the National Employment Savings Trust (Nest) has launched an investigation to ensure that the pension scheme is as flexible as possible for users and accommodates how people save.

Over a quarter of care homes in the UK are still in crippling debt according to a study carried out by Company Watch, with over 5,000 homes considered to be financially distressed. The study follows on from research conducted in 2013 and shows very little improvement in the sector.
